• Founded in 2009, Harboring Hearts is a nonprofit charitable organization providing support and resources to heart patients and their families during the critical time of treatment. Confronting a medical crisis is never easy, and presents additional challenges to individuals and families lacking financial resources to meet unanticipated expenses. We seek to ease the financial and emotional burdens experienced by patients, their families and caregivers.Harboring Hearts is affiliated with New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. We work closely with hospital social workers to identify patients and families with the greatest need and extend support to meet that need.A key focus of our work is helping caregivers to secure safe and comfortable accommodations while their family members are undergoing treatment. Because the needs of heart patients and their families exceed material necessities, we also deliver hope and comfort through our Community Program. To date, our Community Program has benefited more than 1,500 patients and their families, offering essential respite from daily medical routines. These programs build community and offer emotional sustenance by connecting patients, their families and their caregivers with others who have gone through similar experiences.
