- Families call Student Advocacy when their child is struggling in school. Our team of Educational Advocates use our unique legally-based, problem-solving approach to advocate for the school services that children are entitled to under the law and which enable them to succeed. Our advocacy creates better opportunities for children at school; a few months later, 86% are doing significantly better in school according to reports from their parents. Student Advocacy works closely with a wide range of community agencies so that we can help families access other community services that will enhance school success. Our publications and workshops are designed to build parents capacity for advocacy. Our publications can be downloaded for free from our website. When we encounter an issue frequently, we investigate the need for school systems reform. Our Solutions Not Suspensions project seeks to reform school discipline so that interventions focus on solving underlying problems, improving behavior and engaging youth. Our Attendance Matters project encourages an approach to addressing attendance problems that promotes early intervention. Student Advocacy serves families throughout Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York State.
