• The Sutherland Bipolar Center is a specialty clinic housed at the University of Colorado, Boulder. We offer professional diagnosis, research-based treatment, and comprehensive education to people with bipolar disorder and their families. We especially serve those who don't have the financial means to get this help anywhere else.We hold free biannual 8-week Seminar Series on bipolar disorder to anyone interested in learning just about everything with the illness. Topics include diagnosis, helpful tools to positively impact lifestyle choices, sleep, psychotherapy, medications, reciprocal influence in relationships, and wellness and relapse prevention.Our licensed clinical psychologist trains and supervises doctoral psychology candidates from CU Boulder in the treatment of bipolar disorder using modalities grounded in evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Focused Treatment, Social Rhythm Therapy, and psychoeducation. Since our doors opened to serve our first client in January 2002, we have served over 1500 individuals impacted by bipolar disorder, and offered unparalleled, individualized treatment programs not available anywhere in the country.We've been asked why we do what we do. We believe that each human being has the innate drive/desire to be the best they can be, to reach their highest, unique potential.How can people attain their highest potential? Each person is able to be their best when the conditions in their lives -- the environment, the psychological and emotional support, safety, and knowledge -- are all there to hold them in that space, then propel them forward, and empower them to succeed in being the best that they can be.We, at the Sutherland Center, offer people who are challenged with bipolar disorder, the treatment, support and education to optimize their chances to become their best selves, despite the illness. And we've been effectively doing this for 15 years!
