• Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Operating since 1962, the agency serves youth ages 6-18 in two core programs: Community-Based Mentoring: traditional one-to-one mentoring during mentor/mentee free time, roughly 9 hours/month.Site-Based Mentoring: one-to-one mentoring that takes place once a week for 1 hour at a school or an after school program.Big Brothers Big Sisters is accountable for each child enrolled as a Little increasing academic achievement, improving social skills, and creating a healthy lifestyle.Demographics of youth served:71% of Littles live with a single mom21% of Littles have an incarcerated parent41% of Littles have household income below $25,00076% of Littles are African American64% of Littles are Middle School students34% of Littles are maleLocal Outcomes (as of May 2015):100% of Littles feel they have an adult they can turn to in a time of need96% of Littles are less likely to skip school20% of Littles are more likely to finish high school; educational outcomes also increase for attending college and graduating college98% of Littles understand the negative repercussions of alcohol, drugs, and violence66% of Littles feel more accepted by their peersBig Brothers Big Sisters is entirely donor supported and volunteer driven.
