The Last Mile

Description

• The Last Mile trains incarcerated men in California for eventual employment in the technology sector. Its mission is to eliminate unreasonable barriers to the reintegration of people returning from prison as well as the stigmatization of formerly incarcerated people and promote their civic engagement and participation in the business community. The Entrepreneurship Program utilizes the experience and resources of successful entrepreneurs, leveraging their extensive network in the technology business community to help bridge the gap between the penal system and the local business sector. Each program session has a 6 month term. A certification of completion is presented to all graduates to provide validation and credentials to help the graduates with post release employment. The program participants learn technology related terminology, presentation skills and how to build a business plan. These skills are and have been essential to the ability of program participants to make a seamless transition from prison back into society. One of our recent graduates, Heracio Harts commented that he could engage in business related conversations immediately and he felt like he belonged when he began his internship at Rally.org. He could not have made such a transition without participating in the Entrepreneurship Program.
