• Horest is a Persian pop-up kitchen located in San Francisco that hosts pop-up lunch and dinner events by serving refined and regional Persian food from all over the Persia, Iran. Horest is a blend of two names, Hores and Horestan. Hores is the name of a 2800 year-old tree located in Shahrestanak village in province of Tehran, Iran and Horestan is where the indigenous people from village call the place where the tree lives. The tree has one of the hardest situation as a matter of living among other plants with severe limitation in access to sufficient water and pure soil. Horest as a fair food community brings this opportunity for strong and powerful Persian women who are trying to adjust to the acculturation stages and for those who are facing difficulties to live in United states a place where they can bring their culinary skills be shared with others who are willing to taste the authentic dishes from all regions of Iran. Each of our partner is a representative of Hores tree who is trying to get tuned to living conditions by being far from their homeland. Horest as a member of slow food USA is based on a concept of food that is defined by three interconnected principles: good, clean and fair. Slow food envision a place where people can get access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet. The food is based on mediterranean diet focusing on high consumption of fruits, vegetables and legumes, moderate consumption of dairy products and wine, low consumption of non-fish meat and meat-products. All ingredients of our food is provided by local farmer's market with fair conditions and pay for producers. Our team includes Persian women from different cities of Iran who have been doing cooking for about long time in Iran and recently migrated to United States. Each indigenous dishes from any city of Iran is cooked by the woman who is originally from that specific province.
