• Ocean Discovery Institute uses science exploration to engage urban and diverse young people in three ways: education, scientific research and environmental stewardship. Through our programs youth are empowered to transform their lives and make a difference in the world as scientific and environmental leaders. Their discoveries will reveal new ways to protect the ocean and nature, improve the health of our communities, and strengthen the quality of life in our world. Ocean Discovery Institute offers opportunities for involvement at three levels: 1.At the broadest level, young people, their families and community members are engaged through hands-on science and conservation projects. 2.Within local elementary and middle schools, the organization provides classroom and field-based ocean science education. 3.At the middle, high school and college levels Ocean Discovery Institute provides intensive programming and services. The Mission of Ocean Discovery Institute is to engage, educate, and inspire youth from urban and diverse backgrounds through science-based exploration of the ocean and nature, preparing them to be tomorrows scientific and environmental leaders. Our Vision is to empower youth from urban and diverse backgrounds to protect our ocean and natural environment, improve the health of our communities, and strengthen the quality of life in our world.
