• HEART is dedicated to developing youth into caring and responsible citizens with respect to animal protection, human rights and environmental preservation. Our humane education curriculum includes over 180 age-appropriate lessons covering animal welfare, social justice, and environmental protection. Our programs include: (1) In-classroom, after-school, out-of-school. and summer camp venues taught by our own team of humane education instructors, (2) teacher training and professional development workshops taught by our instructors either in person or via the internet where we train other teachers to integrate our lessons in their respective classroom curriculum, (3) development and distribution of teacher resources that enable us to extend the reach to teachers and parents anywhere in the country. We are making our lessons available through a number of distribution channels. In addition, we are creating teacher resource guides that are available for free download on our web site. The first of these guides is our 161 page animal focused resource guide which is currently available via our web site. HEART strongly believes that humane education should be a part of every student's education. In New York State humane education is mandated to be taught in all public elementary schools with a loss of public funding provision if that law is not observed. In total 15 states have laws requiring/recommending humane education instruction. Yet, despite the compelling need, along with humane education laws, the reality is that humane education is rarely taught. HEART is on a mission to help fill this void and provide leadership to institutionalize humane education around the country. We believe humane education is a pathway to a more just and sustainable world.
