• The Western States School of Banking (wssbonline.org) is a bachelor-level, two year Certificate program that has been educating community banking leaders for over forty years, from 1974 2017, graduating over 1500 bankers through its intensive curriculum and program. Students graduate with competencies in determining key factors that drive overall profitability and sound operation, strengthen their confidence in current roles and 'response-ability' for effective leadership, and develop clear financial-service communications for key stakeholders. Between campus-held school sessions, students participate in an Intersession Project, a tiered four-paper research project that applies learning to a student's specific bank on-the-job, with hands-on learning. Governed by a dedicated 20-member Board of Directors comprised of working bank executives, WSSB is designed for, and by professional community bankers for the purpose of empowering the industry. An investment in the high-level competencies gained from WSSB equips students to become more effective managers, leaders, and partners in the economic development goals of their organizations. Students enjoy an old school competitive atmosphere where grades, attendance, and integrity matter. Top students are honored with scholarships, cash awards, and recognition by their efforts and commitment during WSSBs program.
