- At Kings County Tennis League, our mission is to use tennis as an instrument for youth development and community building in underserved neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NY. We literally bring tennis to the childrens communities. KCTL provides free tennis instruction on Saturday afternoons from May to September to 200 at-risk youths in five NYC public housing communities: Marcy, Tompkins, Lafayette Gardens, Sumner and Brevoort Houses.We positively impact our students by:- Creating a competitive environment centered on positive communication,- Incorporating life skills training into each class,- Giving out take-home literature to students,- Inviting role models to speak, and- Providing healthy eating alternatives during class.We build the community by:- Partnering with local nonprofits,- Undertaking community beautification and restoration projects,- Working with local designers and artists to build the program, and- Giving local high school students and residents the opportunity to volunteer.
