• IFG operates a traditional plant breeding program focused on two crops: table grapes and cherries. Founded in 2001 by Dr. David Cain, IFG identifies traits which have important commercial advantages, such as high yields, low cost of production and delicious flavors, and then engages in traditional cross breeding to create new varieties which combine these traits in a single plant. Currently IFG holds patents for 22 proprietary varieties, and has more than 200 new varieties under evaluation. IFG licenses the use of its varieties to growers in 12 countries, and these growers have planted and committed to plant more than 24,000 acres (10,000 hectares). To assist its licensee community, IFG provides ongoing support and technical advice, implements and enforces quality standards, and organizes conferences where its growers can meet and exchange information. IFGs proprietary varieties are developing a superior reputation with growers, marketers, retailers and consumers worldwide and have the potential to fundamentally change the consumer experience of table grapes from no-name commodity products to specialty consumer brands.
