• The Maker City project is designed to help cities understand the Maker movement and the impact it is having on economic opportunity: ecosystem development, education, advanced manufacturing, workforce development, and real estate. As part of this project, Peter Hirshberg, Dale Dougherty, Marcia Kadanoff authored a book entitled: Maker City: A Practical Guide to Reinventing Our Cities You can purchase the book on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Maker-City-Practical-Reinventing-Cities/dp/1680452630 The book is based on interviews completed with 50 thought leaders and practitioners who work at the forefront of the Maker movement in around 20+ cities including: Brooklyn, New York Chattanooga, Tennessee Chicago, Illinois Cleveland, Ohio Detroit, Michigan Elyria, Ohio Fremont, California Ithaca, New York Kansas City, Missouri Lewisburg, Pennsylvania Los Angeles, California Louisville, Kentucky Macon, Georgia New York, New York Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Portland, Oregon Providence, Rhode Island Raleigh, North Carolina San Diego, California San Francisco, California Wenatchee, Washington Additional research was done on the Internet. The target audiences for Maker City are leaders/activists in business, education, and nonprofits, as well as city leaders responsible for making policy. Our goal is to provide practical examples and guidance people can use to strengthen and build the Maker City. To that end, we are working to take what we learned in the book and turn it into a set of ongoing programs that cities can leverage.
