• ARKAY is a privately-held pharmaceutical company located in East Windsor, NJ. ARKAY is currently advancing to the clinic an innovative orally-active first-in-class pancreatic 'Beta-cell-centric' combination product, RK-01 to provide long-term sustainable glycemic control for patients with Type 2 diabetes, and metabolic disease-related disorders such as NASH. RK-01 fills the most important gap that exists in the modalities that are used for the currently marketed drugs by blocking multiple distinct yet overlapping cell signaling pathways along the immune dysregulation-inflammation-insulin resistance axis. Results from the preclinical study performed with C57BL/6J DIO mice with insulin resistance and pancreatic beta cell dysfunction were presented at the 76th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association, June 10-14, 2016, New Orleans, LA. More importantly, RK-01 restored efficacy of Metformin, the current first line of therapy and the current standard of care by restoring insulin-dependent anti-hyperglycemic mechanisms mediated by Metformin. RK-01 has the potential to become the new treatment option for patients with inadequate blood glucose control with Metformin and eventually replace Metformin as the first line of therapy for Type 2 diabetes and Prediabetes patients. Furthermore, RK-01 will be custom-designed and formulated to achieve therapeutic as well as kinetic synergies and more importantly to prevent potential drug-drug interactions (DDIs) and counteract the contraindications that limit the clinical use of Metformin. ARKAY's scientific rationale and the product concept has endorsed by leading KOLs. We are on track to bring RK-01 to the market by 2020. ARKAY is currently raising capital for a human proof-of-concept (PoC) clinical study and then to file an IND, conduct Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials. Our business plan is to partner or merge with a pharmaceutical company in the Type 2 diabetes space after a successful Phase 2 clinical trial.
