• Court Appointed Special Advocates® (CASA) are community volunteers, just like you, who stand up and provide a voice for abused and neglected children who are involved in dependency cases in juvenile (family) court at no fault of their own. Our CASA program belongs to a network of nationally recognized community-based programs that recruit, train and support citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities. We received the 2012 Innovative Program Award of Excellence in recognition of exceptional contributions in advocacy on behalf of the abused and neglected children in Georgia. Volunteer Opportunities: * Child Advocate - Requires completion of National CASA training, background check, and courtroom observation. After training, the successful volunteer will be sworn in by the Juvenile Judge and be assigned a case. Volunteers meet with their assigned children at least twice a month as well as make monthly contact with interested parties to their case. Requires at least 10 volunteer hours a month. * Friend of CASA - Ideal for civic minded person who would like to support CASA Advocacy through helping with community awareness and fundraising events. Previous events include: Evening of Jazz with Live/Silent Auction, Golf Tournament, Superhero 5k/1 mile fun run, and Adult Spelling Bee. We are currently looking for a Race Coordinator for the Superhero Event. * Volunteer Board of Directors - We desire to connect with a diverse group of professional people who have a sincere interest in the welfare of children. Our goal is diversity in ethnicity and professional background, both male and female. Major responsibilities: Friend-raising (community outreach), Governance, Fund-raising, and ensuring volunteer appreciation as well as supporting staff. Connect with us on FaceBook and Twitter too!
