- Founded in 1975, Protectors of Animals, Inc. (POA) is a non-profit animal welfare organization that operates no-kill shelters and rescue services for cats and dogs in central Connecticut. Since its inception, POA has been a volunteer-staffed organization utilizing hundreds of volunteers in a vast array of roles to meet the needs of the animals in its care. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of all dogs and cats in the communities we serve..To pursue this mission, POA operates no-kill shelters for cats and dogs, conducts animal rescue and placement, facilitates spaying and neutering as solutions to cat and dog overpopulation, and promotes humane education as a means of preventing animal cruelty and suffering.Our team shares the values of optimism, compassion, selfless service, integrity, and commitment to the animals and each other.
