- CardiacAssist Technologies was founded in 1996 by Pittsburgh, PA heart surgery pioneer, Dr. George Magovern and a group of local investors with intent to launch an implantable left ventricular assist device. As Dr. Magovern and his team worked through initial product design they soon realized that there was a critical need for a more short term percutaneous left ventricular assist device, and the TandemHeart system was born.TandemHeart was the trendsetter that paved the way for competitive short term heart failure solutions.
