- Teens Act, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, empowers underserved teens to graduate from high school and go on to college. Our program involves three major components: (1) an approved, elective Student Success Class taken during the school day, (2) an After School Mentoring program, and (3) a Parent Support Program. Teens Act began with Dayan Bernal, who was born in Bolivia and raised in California. She personally traveled the challenging road of becoming the first college graduate in her family. While at BYU in 2007, Dayan created a college preparation course for at-risk Hispanic students at Provo High School. The results were promisingthree years later, 17 out of the 25 students completed their first year of college, students who otherwise would not have completed high school. In 2011 Dayan Bernal and Saeko Logsdon (now our executive director and managing director) won 2nd place in the BYU Social Venture Competition and Teens Act was formed. We currently operate our program at Provo High School and Independence High School in Provo, Utah.
