- The Greater Lansing Housing Coalition (GLHC) was founded in 1989 as a private non-profit 501(c)3 community development corporation. We help our community to prosper by providing housing assistance to all, revitalizing neighborhoods, and empowering residents through education and counseling.Since 1995 GLHC has acquired, rehabilitated (or newly constructed) and sold over 185 homes to income eligible, first-time home buyers. The Coalition also has 260 rental units that we make available to low income renters and some special needs populations. We provide home buyer, foreclosure prevention, credit repair, and rental/homelessness counseling and workshops to 700 area residents per year. Our Tuesday Toolmen program utilizes retired contractors and construction tradesmen to provide free home repairs to low-income senior and disabled homeowners. Our mobile Tool Truck lends over 500 tools to low-income City of Lansing residents. We serve as the developer on residential/commercial mixed use rehabilitation projects in low-income neighborhoods, and we are responsible for administering the Tri-County Comprehensive Housing Planning process.
