• The First Tee of Greater St. Louis was founded in 2006 as a program of positive youth development through the medium of the sport of golf. The First Tee is first and foremost an educational program. The mission of The First Tee is to positively impact the lives of young people and foster academic success by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. To that end, The First Tee imparts through programming initiatives The First Tees Nine Core Values, which stem from the etiquette of the game of golf, and include honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. Learning and practicing these values is as important as, and indeed more important than, acquiring the physical skills of the game. Although open to all, programs are targeted at undeserved, underprivileged and at-risk youth who are most in need of the direction our organization provides.The First Tee curriculum focuses on teaching: (1) how to manage emotions; (2) how to set goals; (3) how to resolve conflicts; and (4) how to communicate effectively with others. The First Tee require participants to honor the First Tee Code of Conduct, which is designed to promote each participants respect for themselves, for others and for their surroundings; and adopt the First Tee Nine Healthy Habits, which emphasize energy, vision, mind, school, play, family, school, community, and friendship.
