• The Chicago Academy for the Arts is a nationally recognized, internationally influential independent high school acclaimed for its successful academic model and pre-professional arts training. Students undertake a rigorous academic high school schedule as well as first-class artistic training in one of six courses of study: Dance, Media Arts, Music, Musical Theatre, Theatre, and Visual Arts.Our mission is to transform emerging artists through a curriculum and culture which connect intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity to impart the skills to lead and collaborate across diverse communities. One of only four independent arts high schools in the country, The Academy was recognized as a John F. Kennedy Center National School of Distinction for its work in setting new standards in arts education. The Academy's educational model combines coursework and practicums with professional artists and educators of the highest caliber. Students spend at least three hours of their 8+-hour school day learning the theory, history, and technique of their arts major and students are encouraged to exercise their craft in multiple contexts. Critical thinking and self-motivated learning are the focus of The Academys curriculum and master classes and guest lecturers from industry professionals are integral to the training. This educational environment provides the foundation for our students to make passionate contributions to the world as artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, community leaderswhatever they can imagine, and whatever their dreams become.
