• The mission of the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN) is to accelerate Castleman disease--a deadly, hyper-inflammatory, hematologic disease--research, treatment, and patient care through global collaboration, strategic investments in research, and supportive resources for patients and their loved ones. The CDCN was launched by a team of physicians, researchers, patients, and their loved ones in 2012 to overcome many of the hurdles that existed in the Castleman disease field (poorly understood, few researchers, limited collaboration, different terminologies, no research organization, no diagnostic criteria) and the broader biomedical research system (often inefficient, random, slow). In less than two years, the CDCN has assembled the world's experts on our Scientific Advisory Board, united the global CD community of more than 200 physicians, performed and published a comprehensive review of multicentric Castleman disease (MCD), coordinated the two largest-ever meetings of experts, and developed a high-impact research agenda.The CDCN is actively working to solve and cure Castleman disease, which shares biological overlap with common cancers and autoimmune disease. Solving Castleman disease pathogenesis will provide key insights into other related diseases. Also, the innovative process that the CDCN is taking is replicable and may be adopted to solve many other deadly diseases.
