- The Bluefield Project is a non-profit research foundation dedicated to finding a treatment or cure for frontotemporal dementia (FTD). FTD is a devastating, early-onset adult degenerative brain disease, usually occurring in people under the age of 65. There are no treatments; patients typically die within 5-8 years of diagnosis. We fund a highly collaborative consortium of 16 scientists and clinicians at 9 academic institutions in the US and UK to understand the underlying mechanisms of disease and advance therapeutic approaches. We support basic research, translational and clinical studies, as well as collaborative infrastructure efforts, such as the development of a patient registry and regulatory strategies. Our investigators efforts have led to 2 clinical trials, over 80 peer-reviewed publications, 2 patent applications and significant industry interest in this orphan disease.
