• Here at Gateway Greening, our mission is to educate and empower people to strengthen their communities through gardening and urban agriculture. For the last 30 years, we've been working with St. Louis communities to provide a unique blend of programs: Youth & School Gardens Gardens offer a unique opportunity to apply traditional topics in an interactive environment that reinforces the learning experience. We work with parents, teachers and other community leaders to bring kids outside, integrating classroom work with lessons in gardening and healthy eating. Community Gardens Regardless of their function, community gardens have demonstrated time and again their ability to bring people together, often improving the appearance of neighborhoods while inspiring and educating their participants. Gateway Greening is proud to support 220+ community gardens throughout St. Louis City and County through ongoing educational workshops, tool rentals and resource distribution. Gateway Greening Urban Farm Established in 2006, the Gateway Greening Urban Farm is a 2.5-acre vegetable farm in downtown St. Louis that produces an average of 15,000 pounds of produce yearly. These crops are used in our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program providing a source of fresh produce for individuals. Funds generated through selling CSA shares support our Urban Agriculture program, including the Therapeutic Job Training program for St. Patrick Center clients and Dig It summer teen employment program. Excess produce is donated to the St. Patrick Centers food pantry. Community & Professional Education In addition to weekend workshops for backyard and community gardeners, we have also worked closely with the St. Louis Public School District to develop our Youth Garden Leader Professional Development series workshops for educators that provide insights into the challenges and rewards of moving classes outside while providing Continuing Education credits.
