• Hardy Girls Healthy Women (HGHW) is a social-change organization committed to changing the culture in which girls are growing. We connect girls with the people and resources that help them transform their surroundings into safe havens; and we empower girls with knowledge, critical thinking skills, and a platform for activism.HGHW's vision is that all girls and women experience equality, independence, and safety in their everyday lives. To that end, our mission is to create opportunities, develop programs, and provide services that empower them. Our programming is research-based, designed with girls developmental needs in mind, rigorously evaluated annually, and serves girls in 2nd 12th grade. Ten years of experience working alongside girls and their allies has allowed us to extend our programming across the state of Maine and beyond, where we have networks of more than 15,000 people distributing our resources in 38 states in the U.S. as well as in a number of communities internationally. Additionally, we have trained more than 400 people from around the country in our approach to working with girls through the Hardy Girls Training Institute.In 2010, Hardy Girls Healthy Women was recognized by the State of Maine and the Maine Association of Nonprofits with the Governors Award for Nonprofit Excellence for achieving significant results by combining ingenuity with sound management practices and principles.
