• KidMed is a pediatric urgent care practice, formed by 3 physicians trained in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, each with more than 12 years of pediatric emergency medicine experience by 2008. The first KidMed location was opened in the West End area of Richmond, VA in February 2009. A second location was opened in the Southside area of Richmond in January 2011 and a third location was opened in the Mechanicsville area of Richmond in April 2014. With the success of KidMed in Richmond, the newest location was opened in Stafford, VA (approximately 1 hour north of Richmond) in May 2015. Future plans include a location in Fredericksburg, VA and in Colonial Heights, VA. All Richmond area KidMed locations are open Mon-Fri 12 noon-10pm, and Sat-Sun 10am-9pm, 365 days per year. Our Stafford location is open Mon-Fri 2pm-10pm and Sat-Sun 11am-9pm. We are open all weekends and all holidays (with adjusted hours on the major holidays). We care for illnesses and injuries in children /young adults ages newborn through age 21. Our services include (among other things), evaluation and treatment of acute febrile illnesses, acute respiratory illnesses, and acute gastrointestinal illnesses. We treat lacerations, puncture wounds, abscesses, embedded foreign objects (in skin, ear canals and nostrils), as well as fractures and other acute sports injuries. KidMed has a moderate complexity on-site lab at each location with the ability to check complete blood counts, blood chemistries, urinalysis and multiple point of care tests including rapid strep, influenza A / B, monospot, urine HCG and RSV. We have on-site digital x-ray at all locations with PACS capability. All x-rays are reviewed at the time of visit and are also interpreted by a radiologist the following day. Any discrepancy in the readings are discussed with patients the following day by a physician or NP. All locations are staffed by board certified pediatricians and pediatric nurse practitioner(s)
