• Monkeythis creates unique marketing messages, and strong, exciting brands with creative messaging across all media. But we werent always a marketing and consulting company. We were once Monkeythis.com, an online, one-hour delivery company offering everything from frozen pizza to baby formula from our small warehouse in Ames, Iowa. Todays Monkeythis reflects the successes, the failures, and the lessons learned from that incredible experience. Our goal was to become popular with students and then percolate our way up-market to households and businesses. After gaining an 85% brand awareness* among college students at Iowa State University, we began getting orders from parents who needed diapers delivered to babysitters, then the daycare providers began ordering, and finally the businesses where those parents worked started ordering from us. We used delivery of Blue Sky ice cream to prove we were really fast, and $10 rolls of quarters delivered for $10 to prove we were dedicated to meeting the needs of our customers (yes, at that time doing laundry in college still required quarters). Operating before social media became popular (there was once a time BEFORE Facebook!), we used an online suggestion box to learn what our customers really wanted, and that led to many popular but unexpected products like ping-pong balls, red solo cups, and pregnancy tests (...). Monkeythis, the delivery company, eventually ended, but the lessons we learned still inform everything we do. We learned that even with a great concept and excellent execution, myriad details can lead to failure. Most importantly, from the steady stream of Monkeythis.com customers who send us the occasional email, weve learned how incredibly powerful a strong brand can be.
