• The H Foundation started out as a few friends with entrepreneurial spirit that decided we could make a difference in the fight against cancer. The H Foundation was created, as all great ideas are, over a cocktail called the Goombay Smash. In 2001, threw the first Goombay Bash, our annual fundraising event, under the disguise of a casual Caribbean-style party. Since then, the Goombay Bash has grown to become the largest cancer research fundraising event in Chicago. Since 2001, the H Foundation has raised over $7 million, with all proceeds benefiting the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. All monies raised by The H Foundation go directly to Basic Science Cancer Research. This allows scientists to pursue novel ideas to detect cancer earlier and with greater precision. These ideas are then built into a portfolio of research knowledge to compete for private and government grants. This seed money for basic research leads to millions of dollars from additional funding allowing the Lurie Cancer Center to continue the fight to cure cancer. As a result, our donation has literally turned into over $50 million of research dollars towards finding a cure.Cancer cannot take away the spirit of those who have struggled through the illness, and The H Foundation has vowed to honor that spirit. Until we find a cure, The H Foundation will go on believing and supporting that, Together, we can make a difference!
