In 1985, a branch was built in Mathias, WV with a third location established in Franklin, WV in 1987. A financial holding company, South Branch Valley Bancorp, was formed in 1987 in Moorefield, WV, which changed its name to Summit Financial Group in 1999. Summit extended its services across the state lines, opening two branches in Winchester, VA; Shenandoah Valley National Bank opened on Jubal Early Drive and in the Wal-Mart location, in 2000.Today, Summit Community Bank operates fifteen community banking locations in West Virginia and Virginia.
