    Description

    • Gateway Pet Guardians is a nonprofit animal rescue organization dedicated to eliminating the homeless pet problem in East St. Louis, IL through rescue, spay/neuter and education. Since 1995, founder PJ Hightower has been feeding and rescuing the stray animals in East St. Louis, IL. She has not missed a single day of feeding since 2001. In 2004, St. Louis city community members came together to support PJ's efforts by forming Gateway Pet Guardians. Now, GPG is a flourishing rescue organization that saves hundreds of homeless pets each year, provides them with veterinary care and places them in foster homes until their forever home is found. Our goal is to improve and expand our facility at Macklind and Manchester Ave. that will provide a temporary shelter for animals needing immediate rescue. We are also working toward opening an education center in East St. Louis that provides spay/neuter and vaccination services to community members, and educates citizens about proper animal care.
