- DimePiece was created in Spring 2007 by brand Co-Founders and designers Ashley Jones and Laura Fama, with the intention to carve a niche in the fashion universe and create garments that express and embody feminine empowerment and indulgence. Ashley received her academic degree from California State University, Los Angeles with a BA in Fine Arts and Fashion Merchandising, while Laura received a degree in Product Development from Los Angeles FIDM. Both, not yet 25 yrs. old, acquired over one hundred retailers of DimePiece within their first year in business along with an abundance of magazine, web and celebrity press. Their accelerated growth and positive public response in LA's competitive urban contemporary industry reconfirmed that they had stumbled upon a unique aesthetic and feisty attitude. A recurring theme of women and power and how the two interconnect can be seen each season. The brands name is used as intentional irony as explained by Ashley Jones, How dense is our society that we rate women by a number scale? We mean for the term DimePiece to be ironic and rule-breaking. We intend to turn the perception of a DimePiece around so women would be able to use it as a dignifying term rather than a demeaning one. A Dimepiece is a woman who is unique unto her self and doesn't place herself into any categories. Shes self-governing, opinionated and doesnt rely on her appearance for sole-recognition. She is a is a positive representation of today's young female and is essentially the perfect tenall-around.Each seasons line is expressed by modern pop art-themed prints and t-shirts with the cheekiest and most feminist of phrases; along with hoodies, sweatshirts, leggings and tanks. Now in its sixth season, the young designers add another solid installment to DimePiece, and go from strength to strength as trendsetting Fergie, Estelle, Katy perry and Chloe Sevigny have emerged as fans.
