- StyleMark Inc. designed, developed,and distributed eyewear and other fashion accessories in North America and Europe from 1975 through 2010. The company grew to be the largest distributor of sunglasses within its retail categories, selling to Mass, Drug, Food, Sport, Specialty Retail, and Optical channels.History StyleMark was originally formed as Capo Inc. in Ormond Beach Florida in 1975 as a sunglass distributor. Through the 70s and 80s, the company enjoyed double digit growth in the southeastern U.S. and then nationally. Acquisitions in the 90s and 2000s propelled rapid growth through North America and eventually into Europe. These included Royal Optical, Panama Jack Eyewear, Riviera Trading, Motive Eyewear, and Polaroid Eyewear. In 2010, the company was sold by the owners. Foster Grant/Essilor purchased the North American distribution and operations. Safilo acquired the brand rights to Polaroid Eyewear and distribution in Europe.The U.S operations were consolidated to Foster Grant and eventually closed in September of 2013.Products The majority of the companys business involved design and sales of sunglasses. Reading glasses, hair accessories, headwear, jewelry and other fashion items were also distributed.Marketing StyleMark partnered with popular U.S and international brands to create lifestyle collections with appeal to specific consumer demographics. Licensing partners included, Disney, Revlon, Panama Jack, NASCAR, Nine West, Columbia, Polaroid, U.S. Olympic Team, Gloria Vanderbilt, Jones NY, Ocean Pacific, and others.Retail differentiation related to the various brands provided the company opportunity to distribute in almost all channels of mass retail. Distribution and Operations -The home office and primary distribution center was located in Ormond Beach, Fl. Polaroid Lens manufacturing and distribution was located in Vale of Levin, Scotland. Design offices and showrooms were located in Dallas, NY, Zurich and Hong Kong.
