Enhancing lives.Founded in 1960, Oregon Research Institute (ORI) is a non-profit, independent, behavioral research center with an international reputation as a leader in conducting research to help people lead healthier lives. The results of our scientific studies provide individuals, schools, and community leaders with the knowledge and skills to address local and national public health problems. Areas of research include: Promoting Physical HealthPromoting Psychological HealthPromoting Healthy Child DevelopmentTreating Tobacco, Alcohol, and Illegal Drug UseORI began with just a few scientists and staff working out of one small office in Eugene, Oregon. ORI now has satellite offices in Corvallis and Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington and in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The largest independent behavioral research center in Oregon, ORI employs 165 people. Funded entirely by the National Institutes of Health and the United States Department of Education, ORI in 2016 has 53 research grants and a budget of $16.5 million. ORI is unique among independent research centers in that it has a democratically-managed governance system of employee committees, councils, and Board of Directors.
