• Lifes Kitchen is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk young adults by building self sufficiency and independence through comprehensive food service and life skills training, placement in the food service industry, and continuing education.The goal of Lifes Kitchen is to empower young people who have significant barriers to success to secure employment and to become financially independent and contributing members of our community. Our objectives include delivery of a robust and comprehensive food service job training program, to provide life skills training and resources so that employed young people can sustain themselves and thrive as independent young adults, and to support continuing education through completion of their GED or enrollment in college. Lifes Kitchen is also about personal character development. We want our trainees to develop a sense of direction and purpose in life; to be resilient, self-efficacious, and confident that they have the ability to bounce back from adversity and continue to move forward toward their larger goals. Our ultimate goal is to put young people on a trajectory towards success.We do all of this through our three training businesses: cafe, catering, and contract foods. We operate a training cafe Tuesday through Friday from 11am-1pm. We also operate a professional catering service. Our contract food business provides after school hot meals through Boise Parks and Recreation, school lunches to North Star Charter School, dinner and lunches to residents at the Idaho Youth Ranch Hayes Shelter Home and Terry Reilly Health Services Allumbaugh House, and soup to residents at the Interfaith Sanctuary. In 2013, our trainees produced more than 103,000 meals, more than half of which went to community members in need.Our cafe menu, catering menu, and information about our program, including how a young person can enroll, can be found on our website: www.lifeskitchen.org.
