• ATP was founded in 1965 by John I. Arena, an educator and therapist who was at the forefront of the learning disabilities movement in the 1960s and 1970s. The company began with the journal Academic Therapy Quarterly, the first periodical devoted to disseminating information on learning differences to parents and teachers as well as professionals. During the 1970s John Arena also started the Arena School and Learning Center, and was heavily involved through the 1980s with various organizations such as the Learning Disabilities Association (LDA).In 2014 the company moved into a larger facility in anticipation of expanding development in both the assessment and remedial reading areas. In the following year (2015) ATP celebrated its 50th anniversary, and is looking forward to providing new and needed materials for many years to come.ATP's testing division, ATP Assessments, publishes nationally standardized, criterion and norm-referenced tests used by speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, school psychologists, and other professions. In 2015, ATP recently published revisions to the popular Motor-Free Visual Perception Test (MVPT-4) and Light's Retention Scale (LRS-5) along with two new assessments: The Kindergarten Essential Skills Assessment (KESA), and the Receptive, Expressive, and Social Communication Assessment (RESCA). The new Test of Semantic Reasoning (TOSR) was published in November 2016.ATP's remedial reading division, High Noon Books, publishes phonics-based and high interest - low reading level (hi-lo) books for at-risk students (grades 3 through 6 and up), English language learners, and struggling readers. Notable titles include: Leela & Ben Mysteries, It's All True multi-level nonfiction series, Shadow Lands fantasy series, Sound Out Phonics-Based Chapter Books, and Sound Out InfoMAG nonfiction.
