• The Washington Conservatory of Music is a nationally accredited (NASM/ACCPAS) community music school serving the Greater Washington DC and Bethesda, MD area since 1984, from two locations: within Westmoreland Church on Westmoreland Circle in Bethesda and in nearby historic Glen Echo Park, as part of the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture in a National Park in Glen Echo, MD (pictured above.) The hallmark of WCM is individualized instruction with outstanding faculty, personal attention and guidance for students of any age, any stage. Students of all ages - children, teens and adults - may study with artist faculty members without audition. Individual lessons are offer in piano, voice, strings, guitar/bass, voice, percussion, woodwinds and brass. Whether a student is on a musical career path or engaged in music for personal growth and enjoyment, the WCM faculty guides each student to set and meet their own goals and musical potential. Early Childhood Music offerings include Conservatory Kids, a graded series of classes for age 3 mo to 5 years (with parent/caregiver) an introductory music class for 4 & 5 year olds and Movie Songs for Kids, a preparatory singing class. Classes in Music Theory and Ear Training for all ages, and classical and jazz ensembles are formed on a per-student basis. Students may request training according to the graded curriculum and testing of ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal School of Music.) Instruments of the aural tradition are taught in classes, including Irish flute and tin whistle, Irish bouzouki, tenor banjo, mandolin, Irish Fiddle and Irish bodhran, and various levels of Folk Guitar guitar and ukulele. As a community service, WCM offers free monthly professional concerts featuring WCM artist faculty and guest artists, and a free community orchestra for avid amateur adults.
