• Pen Parentis, Ltd. incorporated in 2013, is a nonprofit organization that provides resources to authors who are also parents. M. M. De Voe serves as founding president, with Emily Speer as founding treasurer, and Michael Del Castillo as founding secretary. There are currently six Board members and 15 Advisory Board Members. Pen Parentis is a 501c3 Literary Nonprofit and holds Guidestar Platinum-level Status. The organization has been the recipient of several New York City and State Arts grants, including a 2017 Creative Engagement Grant administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. In addition to its long-running reading series, The Pen Parentis Literary Salon at Andaz Wall Street (now expanded to L.A. with Pen Parentis West), Pen Parentis offers an annual $1000 Writing Fellowship for New Parents, as well as a secret Facebook group for members to network. History: In 2009, the Pen Parentis After Work Reading series by prize-winning authors, M. M. De Voe and Arlaina Tibensky, began as a distinctive downtown literary event held in the warm and intimate upstairs library lounge of Todd Englishs now-defunt downtown venue, the Libertine. In 2013, the group rebranded the series as the Pen Parentis Literary Salon and now holds monthly Literary Salons in the beautiful Andaz Wall Street at the corner of Wall and Water (75 Wall Street). Enter through the lobby of the distinctive Andaz Wall Street Hotel in the heart of the Financial District. Events are on the second Tuesday of each month in two seasons: September through December and January through May.
