• Dynamic Surgical is a medical device company dedicated to developing smart and cost-effective tools that add a new dimension to surgery: versatility. Our first product, FlexSleeve, is a single-use sleeve that can be placed over flexible endoscopes allowing them to change from flexible to rigid with a touch of a button, providing the physician with the option to toggle between the comfort and maneuverability of a flexible scope and the stability and traction of a rigid scope. While the product has the potential for wide ranging endoscopic use, our team is best prepared to deploy this technology for use in otolaryngology. Currently, when a patient presents to clinic with alarming symptoms, a flexible scope is used to evaluate the airway. If a suspicious lesion is detected by the scope, the surgeon is unable to immediately sample the abnormality in-office to determine if it is cancerous. This is because the flexible scope is too flimsy to provide enough traction to manipulate the tissue, limiting our ability to establish a timely diagnosis. Instead, often weeks to months later, the patient has to be taken to the operating room, put under general anesthesia, and a large rigid scope is inserted through the mouth to sample the lesion. With the help of our sleeve, however, these biopsies could be done in the office, as the sleeve would allow the surgeon to equip the flexible scope with rigid features only when necessary.
