Each year, over 1.5 million children under the age of five die from diseases that can be easily prevented with common vaccines. Vaccine Ambassadors was implemented as a means to combat this global health issue. Vaccine Ambassadors is a partnership between healthcare providers, parents, and community members who believe that all children deserve equitable access to vaccines, one of the most cost-effective, life-saving interventions available. The purpose of Vaccine Ambassadors is to create a comprehensive system to allow families of pediatric patients receiving care in the United States to support existing global immunization programs in a convenient, affordable, and tangible way. Parents of children receiving health care at primary care pediatric clinics will be offered the option to enroll their child in the Vaccine Ambassadors program. As a Vaccine Ambassador an automatic $2, or a chosen amount, will be added to each enrollees clinic visits. The donation will go to the procurement of needed vaccines and immunization services to be used by established global immunization programs. Vaccine Ambassadors was born out of the idea that each of us given the opportunity has the ability to profoundly affect the life of another.
