NerdOnyx aims to ignite an interest in young minds to pursue a career in technology. Ever sit around in class zoning out and ask yourself, Do they even use this in Industry? Students in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields really cannot seem to catch a break! First their friends say, You're studying what?! Yeah..good luck with that, and walk away with a grin. Next these STEM students tend to sit through classes and if they aren't hobbyists or advanced learners, trying to figure out how the theoretical material taught in the classroom is applied to the real world tends to get overshadowed by trying to just figure out what exactly happened in those 50 minutes of class they sat through. We've all been there! Sitting in a seminar, lecture, webniar, etc and just looking at the student next to you in utter confusion. Why am I learning this? Does this really matter? Who uses this? What exactly does a Electrical Engineer do again? Why are the numbers imaginary? OH THE HORROR! Wouldn't it be nice if there was a web-based source where basic to advanced levels of material can be covered by people who asked the same questions at one point but then became experts in the field? Here at NerdOnyx, thinking back to our days as students in the STEM fields still gives us shivers. The long nights, the pizza boxes, and computer vision. Our team thought about all the issues facing the modern STEM student and realized that not everyone is the same. It's time to create a place where people can learn on their own and at their own pace in a way that doesn't make them fall asleep (well hopefully, some stuff is really dry).
