- Founded in 1982 by Craig N. Freeman, Northwest College of Art & Design (NCAD) has been a specialized school of art since its beginning. In the early nineties, NCAD relocated to a 26 acre estate in Poulsbo, Washington. Here, the College continued to expand its facilities without losing the outdoor beauty that has become essential to our student experience. This move allowed the College to modify its program to create the B.F.A. degree program in Visual Communication with multiple majors. NCAD is 9 miles from the Bainbridge Island ferry and just a 35-minute ferry ride to Downtown Seattle. The B.F.A. degree program in Visual Communication is 9 semesters (4.5 academic years) and is typically completed in 36 months. The program is considered a full time program. DOUBLE MAJOR COMBINATIONS IN THE B.F.A. DEGREE PROGRAM IN VISUAL COMMUNICATION Graphic Design & Illustration Graphic Design & Photography Graphic Design & Interactive Design Graphic Design & Motion Design Graphic Design & Entertainment Art Entertainment Art & Illustration Entertainment Art & Interactive Design Motion Design & Photography Motion Design & Interactive Design NCADs accelerated and highly structured sequential B.F.A. program does not lend itself to flexibility in terms of alternative scheduling.
