• AmeriCorps is a federal program that places more than 75,000 men and women in intensive service each year to help communities tackle pressing problems while mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve. Last year, AmeriCorps reached the milestone of enrolling the 1 millionth member getting things done for America. Like the million who came before them, the new class of AmeriCorps members will serve through more than 15,000 nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Through their service in AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps VISTA, and AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), these national service members gain valuable professional experience, educational benefits, and civic awareness. This experience has a lasting impact on the members serving, as well as the communities in which they serve. Recently, AmeriCorps launched the Employers of National Service initiative. This program raises awareness of the valuable skills held by the million Americans who have served in AmeriCorps since 1994 and the 215,000 who have served in the Peace Corps. Employers of National Service connects AmeriCorps and Peace Corps alumni to job opportunities with employers from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Employers of National Service have a competitive edge in reaching a large and diverse pool of talented individuals, and their job opportunities are highlighted via promotional channels that reach a vast network of talented job seekers. The Corporation for National and Community Service, which administers AmeriCorps, is leading this effort along with its partners at the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps Alums, and the Service Year Alliance.
