- Background: The Blind Childrens Center was founded in 1938 to serve children from birth to school age who are blind or severely visually impaired. The Centers Mission is to optimize each childs development by providing a special education/vision program within a fully inclusive multi-disciplinary model for young children and their families so that they may lead independent and productive lives. The Centers mission is also to use its expertise and experience to serve families and professionals worldwide through support services, educational publications, and research support.The Blind Childrens Center is licensed by the State of California and is a private school which operates Infant/Zero to Three, Preschool, Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Programs. Classes are held five days a week, September through July. The Center serves between 90 & 100 children from birth through eight years old and more than 150 family members annually in its center-based, home-based and referral programs. Additionally, through publications for professionals and families, and support for research, the Center literally touches the lives of thousands of people throughout the world. All educational and family services are provided without charge. All services are available in English and Spanish. Funding: Blind Childrens Center is a private 501(c)(3) organization which receives no city, state, county or federal funding. It is not a United Way agency. The Center relies on private donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, special events and earnings from our investment account. One hundred percent of donor contributions directly support the Centers programs. Administrative costs are supported through earnings on investments. The Center provides center-based and in-home educational and family services free of charge to the families. IRS TAX ID # 95 1656369
