Dr. Kurian is a New York City native & graduated from prestigious Stuyvesant High School. She was accepted into a combined six year college/medical school program at Albany Medical College. She completed her surgical training at Albany Medical College where she began to develop her interest in obesity management. After completing her residency, Dr. Kurian became a member of a team of physicians at The Mount Sinai Medical Center that pioneered techniques that helped make minimally invasive obesity surgery safe and effective. In addition to performing laparoscopic gastric bypass, Dr. Kurian has educated other surgeons in New York City and throughout the country, and has published numerous articles on minimally invasive obesity surgery. In her practice, she offers numerous alternatives for morbidly obese individuals. These include minimally invasive gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Band, biliopancreatic diversion and revisional procedures. All with an emphasis on lowering post operative discomfort and accelerating recovery. Dr. Kurian continues to be an innovator in the field of obesity and minimally invasive surgery in New York City. She was a principal investigator for the use of the adjustable band for the treatment of morbid obesity and co-investigator on the use of vagus nerve stimulation for the treatment of obesity. Dr. Kurian has presented articles and given talks throughout the world. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
