The functional program is first scrutinized to confirm that it is suitable to the particular project and not just a generic starting point. The budget needs to be addressed as early as possible and all subsequent moves should take place with it in mind. Tectonics are the stuff of buildings, the form, materials and arrangement. Environmental factors are everything outside of the building that influences it, including the surrounding areas, the legal constraints, and the regional climate. The search for an appropriate solution is a cyclical one, each factor influences the next and should be revisited several times through the course of a project.
