• In 1946, Joe, Ted, Valeryn, Marion and Frank Traskos opened their first hardware store in Dearborn Michigan known then as Hardware Depot. Their plan was to provide friendly and knowledgeable service, low prices and to carry products their customers needed. Over the years, while many things have changed, for our Michigan based company, like what you might find in our store, or our logo, other things are still very much the same such as our core values.In 2014 our organization (known recently as ACO Hardware) joined the number #1 Hardware brand on the planet and is now known as Great Lakes Ace Hardware. This year we have undergone a major renovation, from new lighting, to counters, signs and fixtures along with an incredible influx of over 30,000 new items into our stores. All of our over 800 associates, are proud to be the largest independent Ace retail chain in the world - with world class stores, delivering the same core values our founders put in place nearly 70 years ago!This year we have opened 47 Great Lakes Ace stores in Michigan in only 7 months! We plan to open our first all new stores in Q1 2016 - and then will set our sites on growing throughout the Great Lakes region!
