• The Mission of The College Settlement and Kuhn Day Camps is to provide camping programs and services to young people from the greater Philadelphia area, especially those who are economically disadvantaged, in order to foster personal growth through understanding, acceptance, respect for self, others and our natural world by means of enjoyable, experiential and environmental educational activities. The College Settlement of Philadelphia was founded in 1889 to provide social, cultural and educational programs for the immigrants of South Philadelphia. The Agency operated a Settlement House in Philadelphia at Fourth and Christian Streets. The College Settlement Camp was founded in 1922 by Anna Freeman Davies to augment the cultural, educational and recreational programs conducted in the city by The College Settlement of Philadelphia. Kuhn Day Camp , founded in 1950, is adjacent to The College Settlement and the two camps share some facilities and resources. We have been providing camping services which have grown to include a spring and fall Outdoor School program for local schools, a Teen Adventure Program for 13-14 year old summer campers and many school year weekend programs for youth groups, sports teams and corporate retreats and training events. The College Settlement of Philadelphia resident camp programs and Kuhn Day Camp offer programs for many children who live in difficult situations and face challenging problems in their daily lives. We offer them an enjoyable, educational summer camp experience. Summer Camps at College Settlement offers overnight camp with five and twelve day summer camping experiences and enrollment is open to children ages 8-14 and also 4 week day programs for children ages 7 - 14 years. We believe that no child should be prevented from participating in the Camp's program due to a lack of funds. For this reason, all campers are heavily subsidized and fees are kept to a minimum or waived entirely when need is demonstrated.
