• New Histories' sole owner and designer, Tessa J. Kennedy, has made and studied jewelry as an art form for over a decade. She received her BFA in Crafts, from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2005, and received her MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Syracuse University in 2012.Tessa's passion for contemporary conceptual and historical jewelry is the inspiration for the New Histories production line. She aims to show the rich history of jewelry to the public, attaching deep personal and social value to what we wear. Tessa creates pieces that stand at an intersection: where the romance of antiquity, the cool of trend-based fashion, tradition and quality of fine craft, and meaning of art unite.The jewelry we wear tells many stories, connecting us to our history and showcasing cultural values. New Histories inspires heirloom culture, where jewelry becomes a link between family members over generations. We also encourage the public to buy jewelry made with materials other than gold and white diamonds, changing social perceptions of value.
