- Faith-Based Comprehensive Therapy for Children with Autism and PDD The Philosophy of Mustard Seeds Therapy Our Incorporated Therapies Each child with autism, and other development disorders, is unique, and thus they may not respond to standardized therapy. Mustard Seeds uses a variety of therapies to help children with autism spectrum disorders. The overall focus of our therapy is based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a program that rewards specific behaviors and has been endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General and numerous other state and federal agencies. Our other treatments, provided by Board Certified Therapists, include speech therapy, occupational therapy, play therapy, and music therapy. In addition to these therapies, we teach children valuable life skills for functional living as well as their ABC's and 123's. Mustard Seeds' ranch settings also allow us to offer equine-assisted therapy, where children interact with horses to receive the benefits of physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Importance of Peer Interaction In addition to working with therapists, children can learn a lot from their peers. By having them interact with each other through play, music, and other therapies, we believe that children can learn standard behaviors and social skills. We use trained, older neuro-typical children to serve as big brothers and sisters to the children on the ranch. Therefore, our children can develop important social and behavioral skills by mimicking these older children. We also strive to help our children better interact with their siblings by offering Family Days where siblings can swim, ride horses, and participate in other fun activities.
