- The Farmers State Bank was started in 1889 by H. G. Bloom, the sole owner, and it was called the Farmers Bank. It was originally located on the South side of West Washington Street in New Madison, Ohio. In 1907, after Mr. Bloom's death, the bank was moved into the Bloom Building located on the Northeast corner of the intersection of Washington and Main Streets. At this time the name was changed to the Farmers Banking Company. It was still a private company with Mrs. Bloom the principal stockholder. In 1919, a State Banking charter was obtained and the name became The Farmers State Bank. In August of 1969 they moved into their present location at 101 South Main Street. In 1979, the bank opened their first branch office at 1107 Sweitzer Street in Greenville, Ohio. The second branch office opened in 1989 at 618 South Washington Street in New Paris, Ohio with a third branch office being opened in 2000 at 675 Wagner Avenue, Greenville, Ohio. The most recent addition to the branch network is located at 930 E. Washington St., Winchester, Indiana and was opened in November of 2015.
