- Promising Pages is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina. At Promising Pages, volunteer collect new and gently-used childrens books, clean and wrap them as presents, and distribute them in a revolutionary way to kids in the community with few, if any books at home via their signature Magic Book Parties and Mascots Erm the Book Worm and Erma the Book Worma.The need for Promising Pages' programs is great. In the local public school system, 1 in 3 students in third grad read below grade level and 1 in four students will not graduate. (CMS 2012 YE Report.) There are an estimated 60,000 kids in the Charlotte area alone growing up with few, if any books to call their own. According to the US department of Education, if a child is not exposed to books by the time he or she enters kindergarten, the child is three to four times more likely to drop out of high school. Promising Pages helps fill that void of simple access to books at home and changes attitudes about those books, helping to turn children into excited young readers.Readers become leaders.
